For many long months
Snow and ice and night.
Long awaiting
The light.

When I started working on this piece, I didn’t have a clear idea of what it would become. As I worked the first horizontal line in my pine charcoal watercolor paint, the spirit of the piece slowly came into being…
The sun came next in a lovely rich yellow ochre. (Sunrise? Sunset? You pick…)
But what did the sun see? I wondered, and then realized: everything.
Rocks formed below the earth, painted in brighter earth pigments. A tree rose from the ground, and leaves sprang to life with a gentle moss green.
The painting was now complete.
